Writing Curriculum

At St Anthony’s, we aim for all of our children to be successful writers and communicators.

Pupils will be confident in writing effectively for different purposes, utilising the necessary vocabulary, grammar, punctuation and spellings to communicate clearly and impact on their reader. Research shows how crucial word acquisition is for children; not only to access the curriculum and make progress, but to increase their chances of leading a successful life. We believe that by narrowing the language gap, children will be increasingly equipped to engage with the world around them, raise their aspirations and become more effective communicators. They can practise and apply this in their writing across the curriculum and in their lives.

The writing curriculum is designed to allow for meaningful learning experiences that spark the imaginations of our pupils, making writing exciting and engaging for all. Through carefully designed units, rooted in fostering engagement, all pupils are empowered to expand their vocabularies, experiment with writing techniques, and embed the tools they need to become independent and adaptable story tellers, communicators, poets, entrepreneurs, play-writes…whatever they choose to be!
